CHOP STICK CAFE
.
Located in Winchester’s historic district, this popular local restaurant needed to expand. The owners wanted a space that better reflects the theme of their restaurant while working within the local historic guidelines for new construction. The project is an adaptive reuse of a Federal-style house with a single-story four-season room addition.
The project had three main design influences. First, the historic nature of the neighborhood provided a strong material palette from which to build. Second, the site is at the intersection of a main entrance road into the downtown and an active rail line. Third, the restaurant’s brand image called for Asian-inspired geometry and proportions. By balancing these three influences, the project resulted in the growing success of this local staple.
