CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF ARLINGTON SPIRITUALITY CENTER

How do you convert an austere, cold, modernist monastery into a warm inviting spiritual retreat center? This was the challenge faced by DESIGN CONCEPTS and beautifully answered through the introduction of natural wood elements into this flat roof, glass, steel, and brick structure. Wood furniture, panels, shelves, and light fixture accents combined with warm colors and furnishings to create a tranquil space while maintaining large glass openings for natural light and a connection to the outdoors.

This 39,000 sq. ft. historic structure sits on 150 acres.  DESIGN CONCEPTS was selected to renovate this former monastery into a state-of-the art retreat center. Features include a chapel, cafeteria, conference room, classrooms, and space for more than 50 overnight guests. New guest rooms and meeting rooms were created and furnished while bringing the facility up to current codes and standards. Complete design and construction drawings as well as construction support services were provided. New split-ductless mechanical units were used throughout for ease of installation and energy efficiency. Rooms were insulated and new glazing was provided as well.
