DESIGN
Stage Two of the DESIGN CONCEPTS' Process
4 Conceptualize the Options
Next, we begin the actual Design Phase. First, we like to visualize several design concepts. The purpose is to identify a range of solutions to gather a response that leads to additional concepts that should be explored more in depth.
The first concept is always our literal interpretation of the client’s request. Contrasting solutions to the same criteria are then presented to create a visualized awareness of the range of possibilities.
5 Interaction Based Architecture Process
We then discuss what elements of the design seem most functional and desirable. Based on feedback, certain ideas are explored further, resulting in a third alternative which is usually the most appealing.
This unique process where we present the viable design concepts, elicit a reaction, and visually respond with sketches and drawings, is how we arrive at the most desired, unique solution, which brings us to the final, one design concept.
6 Formalization of the Design
The preferred design concept has to be formalized into the final design. This includes floor plans, sections, elevations, scaled drawings, and if appropriate, renderings. This resulting formal documentation provides the basis for construction documents.
